To the loving family of Kay;
I just happened to see the OU game on TV last night, and thought of "Miz
Switzer", my math/algebra teacher at Norman's West Jr. High School, 1967-68?. I
just happened to google her this morning, and I am shocked by the news. She was
the best, and suffered our Advanced Placement/Accelerated math class antics with
great humor. I'll never forget how much we made her mad with our smart-ass but
witty (we thought!) comments, maybe even made her cry once (mostly the boys,
there were only 3 or 4 of us girls, Karen Shaw, Jonelle Oliver, me, and ?). But
she loved us, loved math, had a great smile and enormous energy in that petite
body. (There were a few hoops players in the class, and they towered over her.)
I'll never forget her. I am truly sorry for your loss; I'm sure that she loved
you dearly.

About 40 years ago, Kay Switzer was my high
school Algebra teacher. She was a tough math teacher (though I wouldn't have
made an "A" in Algebra without her), but outside the classroom, she was so sweet
to her students. She used to take some of us girls to Sooner Dairy Lunch in her
white T-bird. She was young, smart and beautiful and we all wanted to be just
like her. She was my idol and my favorite high school teacher. Mrs. Switzer had
a positive influence on what I'm sure must have been hundreds of students. She
will be missed and forever fondly remembered.
