Conner was born October 1, 1991 in Edmond, Oklahoma to Steven Lee and Lori Ann (Patten) Russell. He passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Norman Regional Hospital.
Conner was a very enthusiastic and competitive young man who excelled at anything he put his mind to. One of his greatest passions in life was sports, particularly baseball. Conner scored the winning run during his senior year that qualified his team to advance to the State Tournament in the Spring of 2010. After graduating from high school, Conner received a scholarship to play baseball for Wallace Community College in Hanceville, Alabama. He was pitcher for the Lions during the Fall 2010/Spring 2011 Season before he became injured and returned home to Norman during the summer of 2011.
Conner was also a witty and sarcastic individual that enjoyed making those around him laugh. He enjoyed writing, and maintained a journal of his life experiences. He was a strong shoulder for his Mom, Lori, always making sure she was alright. He was always her protector, along with his brother, Cale.
Conner's goal in life was to complete his college education and and become a Broadcast Journalist for ESPN.
Conner will be missed by many and touched the lives of more people than we will ever know, but we take comfort in knowing that his memory will live in the hearts of those who choose to remember, reflect and love Conner for the person he was and the accomplishments he made.
Conner is survived by his parents, Steve and Lori Russell of Norman; his twin brother, Cale Russell of Norman; his sister, Rylie Russell of Norman; his maternal grandfather, Dave Patten of Norman; his paternal grandmother, Sally Russell of Ardmore, OK; his maternal Aunt and Uncle, Dava and Rick Byrd of Norman; his paternal Aunt and Uncle, Denise and Delmar McCord of Ardmore, OK; and a host of additional family members, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sharyl Patten on January 22, 2012 and his paternal grandfather, Marion Lee Russell on July 30, 2006.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Tecumseh Cemetery in Tecumseh, Oklahoma.
Arrangements for Conner and his family were placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Conner Russell to the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, P.O. Box 90111, Arlington, Texas 76004-311 or by visiting https://secure.mlb.com/tex/community/membership_form.jsp. Conner would be honored and delighted to know he helped kids fulfill a dream of playing baseball. This charity is amazing. They even have a Make-A-Wish program for kids with cancer, which hits home with Conner, because his MawMaw recently lost her battle with cancer.
