Billie Marie Hunter was born to Alvis W. and Margie B. (Hall) Lindsey in Dallas on August 10, 1936. It was the hottest day on record up to that point. When Billie was 9 years old the family moved to Oklahoma when her father became a Baptist Minister.
Billie met E. Royce Hunter at Central State University in Edmond her freshman year. She thought he was very handsome, funny and kind so she asked him for a ride to her parents in Tipton. They began dating shortly after and married on August 30, 1955.
She and Royce had three children; Gina born 1956, Lindsey in 1960 and Hollianne in 1965. Billie and Royce loved serving the communities and great state of Oklahoma, were they did what they could to help others.
Billie worked as a secretary and later sold real estate while going to college part-time. She earned her BA from USAO of Chickasha in 1980 and then a Masters of Social Work in 1983 from OU. Billie worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from 1980 until 2001.
Some of the things that Billie enjoyed were attending local festivals and visiting with family and friends. She was an avid reader and loved to travel, explore new cultures and meet new people. She loved music and singing with various choirs.
Billie is survived by her daughters, Gina and husband Dimitris Kousiakis of Greece, Holli and husband Jimmy Cockrum of Norman and her brother Jim and wife Amanda Lindsey of New Mexico.
Billie has 5 grandsons; Fotis Kousiakis, Christian Hackney, Zac Hackney, Tyler Cockrum and Elliot Cockrum. One grand-daughter-in-law, Kelly Cockrum, and two great-grand-children, Kyson and Ava Cockrum.
She is also survived by 3 nieces and 2 nephews that she enjoyed watching grow to develop careers and families of their own. The Newport family has been intertwined with the Hunters as close family friends for over 45 years.
