Dixie Williamson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, July 31, 2017, in Norman, Oklahoma. She was born April 5, 1938, in San Francisco to Frances (Levy) Samuels and Stewart Samuels.
Dixie was a proud San Franciscan and loved her home state. She attended prestigious Lowell High School and was a proud lifelong Lowell Indian. Upon graduation she jumped across the Bay and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work. At Berkeley she met the love of her life, Mike Williamson. They married on October 19, 1962, and began their great, long life together in Belmont, California.
Having a true servant's heart, Dixie began her professional career as a social worker in San Mateo County in northern California. Two years into her career she retired and went on to have an amazing career as a stay at home mom. She spent most of her adult life taking wonderful care of her husband and three children, and later in life, five grandchildren.
A consummate wife, mom and planner, Dixie was a task master and you could find her "to do" lists all over the house. She was very involved in the lives of her children, serving as soccer coach, Bluebird leader, homeroom mom and incredibly talented chauffer. You could always find her on the sidelines of soccer, football, softball and basketball games cheering on her kids with great pride and enthusiasm. As her kids grew older she took great pride in all of their personal and professional accomplishments.
A true sports fan, she loved cheering on all sporting teams from Cal, the Sooners, Thunder and San Francisco 49ers. Dixie was also a creative and talented artist and she leaves behind beautiful work that is treasured by her family.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 54+ years, Mike; her daughter, Wendi Schuur and husband Terry of Norman, OK; her son, Scott Williamson and wife Niki Baccam of Santa Clara, CA; and daughter Vicki Travis and husband Mike of Decatur, GA. Her legacy lives on in her five energetic grandchildren who brought her so much joy, Kagan Travis, Marina Schuur and Reagan, Elliot and Hailey Williamson. She is also survived by her loving sister, Sally Samuels, of San Carlos, CA.
Later this year, a private family celebration in honor of Dixie, the family's matriarch, will take place in northern California, where she will be laid to rest.
In honor of Dixie's memory, memorial donations may be made to an organization close to her heart, the Gladney Center for Adoption, 6300 John Ryan Drive, Fort Worth, Texas 76132-4122.
