James B. (Jim) Summers, 94, died peacefully on Sunday morning, May 28th in Norman, Oklahoma.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wilma H. Summers; daughter, Robyn S. Gruber and her children Hannah and James Gruber of Marietta, GA; daughter, Jamie S. Burroughs, her husband Paul Burroughs and their children Maggie, Parker and Abbey Burroughs of Norman, OK. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Nancy Summers; brothers, Harvey Summers, Ernest Summers, Rollie (Sparky) Summers, Houston (Pappy) Summers and sister, Margaret Summers. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. 

Jim was born on August 25, 1922 in Chelsea OK and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1941. He was drafted and served in WWII as a communications officer in the 17th Signal Operations Battalion serving in 5 major campaigns. When the war ended he returned home to attend the University of Tulsa. After marrying Wilma Hail of Broken Arrow in 1963, they moved to Sapulpa, OK and operated the Tastee Freeze, later named Happy Burger, until he retired in 1989. He loved visiting with customers and making everyone who walked in the door feel at home. 

Jim enjoyed reading his Bible and watching OU sports. After retirement his focus was always on family and enjoying time spent with his beloved grandchildren, who also share his sense of humor, playful nature and Summers good looks. 

He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Sapulpa and joined Bethel Baptist after relocating to Norman. He was a happy resident of Arbor House Reminisce Memory Care Center where he was loved by staff and residents alike. 

Funeral Services, officiated by Rev. Ross Pruitt, will be held at Bethel Baptist Church in Norman on Wednesday, May 31, at 10:00 a.m.  Family will be receiving friends at Havenbrook Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30, 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Interment will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens at the Chapel Mausoleum in Sapulpa Wednesday at 2:30 following the funeral in Norman. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethel Baptist Church of Norman, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
