Johnnie Daphne Lewis

September 15, 1923 ~ March 9, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old
Johnnie “Daphne” Lea Lewis, 93, of Oklahoma City, OK (formerly Norman, OK) passed away peacefully in her apartment at Legend at Jefferson’s Garden Assisted Living Community on March 9, 2017.
She was born on September 15, 1923 in Altus, OK and then spent most of her early years growing up in Sayre, OK. After graduating from Sayre High School, she married William E. Lewis, Sr. The two enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 66 years, living primarily in Oklahoma City and Norman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Bessie Lea of Norman, and her husband.
Daphne was a dedicated and loving daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, homemaker, and friend; and a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church of Norman for over 45 years.
Her greatest joys and pleasures were her times spent with immediate and extended families, her decades of devotion to the Norman First Presbyterian Thrift Shop, her years of participating with dear friends in both Norman and Oklahoma City Bridge and Book Clubs, and her boundless enthusiasm for the OU Sooners and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
She is survived by one daughter, Julie Lea Lewis Rankin and husband Stan of Edmond, OK; one son, William E. “Bill” Lewis, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; one granddaughter, Libby Lea Rankin Gober and husband Aaron of Oklahoma City, OK; one grandson, Mitchell Edward Rankin and wife Merrick of Edmond, OK; one great-grandson Everett Mitchell Rankin, two great-granddaughters Audrey Ann Rankin and Caroline Lea Gober; one sister, Dolores Wanzer of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother H.A. Lea and wife Pat of Enid, OK; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
The family wishes to extend their heart-felt appreciation to the staff at Legend Assisted Living and Physician’s Choice Hospice for their caring and loving service.
Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 13, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Norman, 555 South University Avenue, Norman, OK, 73069.
