Lena E. McCourry. 99, a long time Norman resident went home to be with her Lord Thursday, March 7, 2013.  
Lena was born April 25, 1913 in Dibble, Oklahoma to Noah Edward and Ida (Gunter) Lipe.  She was the next to the youngest of 10 children who as a family worked at farming and picking cotton.  Lena married Robert Earl McCourry on June 3, 1933 in Oklahoma City. They moved to Calif. During WWII where they helped count ammunition as the ships came in. “Earl’s” health prompted them to move back to Dibble, Okla.  They had two boys.  Lena went to beauty school in 1946 and earned her beauty license working as a beauty operator in Dibble for a few years. They moved to Norman.  in 1953. She began work as a Nurse Technician at Griffin Memorial Hospital and retired from the hospital in 1978 after 25 years.  Her husband passed away in 1963 and Lena remained a widow for 50 years living in her own home until 2013.  Lena as a member of Berry Road Baptist Church was an active member of the Lois Sunday School Class and more recently returning to Bethel Baptist Church where in the 90s she sang in the Senior Adult Choir. She loved reading her bible.  She was an avid sports fan from baseball, to football, to basketball loving the OU Sooners and the OKC Thunder.  Lena’s favorite hobbies were crocheting, quilting, and plastic crafts.  She enjoyed making many blankets, quilts, and doilies, for family and friends.  Other hobbies included crossword puzzles, reading, and flower gardening.  Lena was always forgiving, kind and caring.  She was a wonderful lady, with a great sense of humor enjoying life. She was loved by many and will be truly missed.  
Lena is survived by daughter-in-law, Martha McCourry of Norman; Six Grandchildren Stanton McCourry and his wife Nancy of Norman, John McCourry and his wife Dawn of Round Rock, TX, Melanie Thacker and her husband Jon of 29 Palms, CA, Robert McCourry II and his wife Brenda of Newton, KS, Rhonda Anderson and her husband Chris of Peabody, KS and Krista Stutzman and her husband Greg of Riverside, IA; seventeen Great Grandchildren; and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Earl McCourry; 2 sons, Robert Allen and Stanley Allison; four brothers, five sisters, and one grandchild Stanley Allison Jr.
Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 10, 2013 with the family greeting friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, in the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel, Norman, OK. Burial will conclude in Mustang Cemetery, Mustang, OK.  Arrangements for Lena and her family have been placed in the care of the Vice Family at Havenbrook Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com
