We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Havenbrook Funeral Home
Alta Mae Chilson, 81, of Norman passed away Monday, May 24, 2021, after spending her final hours surrounded by the love of her family. Alta was born on April 15, 1940, in Thedford, Nebraska to L.D. and Alta Mercer.
Leaving the sandhills of Nebraska in search of new adventures, Alta traveled to Denver, Colorado, a move which led her to the love of her life, Darrell, and her nursing career. Alta and Darrell traveled the world, raised two sons, and eventually settled in Norman, where she spent her final years enjoying grandkids, and raising her beloved puppy Mya.
Known as Mema by her grandkids, she kept them entertained on a daily basis with mysterious meals, questionable movie choices, and plenty of laughter. Beneath a sometimes tough exterior was a woman with a pure heart, a heart filled with care and love for her family.
Preceding Alta in death were her parents; husband, Darrell; brothers, Myron, Clifford, Berle, Merle, Stanley, Francis; and sisters, Chloie, Ila, and Ruth. Alta is survived by her sister and brother, Linda and Loy Dean; her sons, Andrew Chilson and wife Linda of Norman, and their children Dru, Ian, Ari, and Asa, and Nicholas Chilson and wife Laura of Woodward and their children, Nicole, Gracie, and Kelli.
