Alvena Rose Johnson, age 97, passed away on August 14, 2021. She was born in Norman, Oklahoma, on April 14, 1924, to the late Martin and Rosie (Sontag) Winkler.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Women’s Club, St. Theresa Guild, and St Joseph Golden Agers. She ushered at St. Joseph Catholic Church, served 1978-79 Treasurer of St. Joseph’s Women’s Club, served 1983-84 and 1984-85 Chairwoman of St. Theresa Guild. She offered her services at the St. Joseph’s Thrift Shop, Church Garage Sales, Bazaars, Seder Meals, Congregate Meals, Funeral Dinners, Thanksgiving Dinners, Thanksgiving/Christmas Baskets, and Bingo at Nursing Homes.
She was preceded in death by her second husband of 38 years, Jim Johnson; her parents; one sister and three brothers; and her first husband and father of her children, Denton Shockley.
She is survived by her children Gary Shockley and wife Janice, Dennis Shockley and wife Margaret, and Cheryl Trent and husband Mike; grandchildren, Jana Holcomb and husband Steven, Gayla McDow and husband Robert, and Jimmie Shockley; great grandchildren Blakely, Keelin, Raylei and Audrey; and several other relatives and friends.
The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff at Wickshire Senior Living, formerly Rambling Oaks, and Kindful Hospice for the love and care they provided to Alvena.
