Tribute

 

Anna M. Huddleston Ferrell, age 100, a lifelong Cleveland County and Norman resident, died on November 25, 2020, at her home.  She was a proud Oklahoman, as well as a citizen of America’s “Greatest Generation”.

 

Born on February 15, 1920, to Arthur Monroe and Mary May (Upchurch) Davenport on a farm east of Lexington, OK, she attended Cleveland County elementary schools and Noble High School.  In 1937, she married Clifford W. Huddleston of Norman, and was married for twenty-four years until his death in 1961.

 

She was a homemaker, mother to four children, and during World War II, she supported the war effort by working as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Douglas Aircraft (Tinker Field) while her husband served in the U.S. Navy overseas.  She later was employed as a telephone switchboard operator at Central State Hospital.  She was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church in Norman, where she taught Sunday school for several years.  In 1962, she married James F. Ferrell of Norman, and was married for thirty-three years before his death in 1995.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her eldest son, Donald Roy Huddleston of Oklahoma City; a grandson, Christopher Cole Huddleston of Land O Lakes, FL; and three brothers, Charlie W. Davenport and Carl O. Davenport of Ardmore, and Roy J. Davenport of Norman; and three of her four sisters, Edna I. Reid of Pueblo, CO, Loyce E. Laurence of Ardmore and Ethel I. Champeau of Loveland, CO.  She is survived by her three remaining children, Michael R. Huddleston (Glenna) of Norman, Suzanne Waters (Dean) of Norman and Becky R. Marchino (Joseph) of Liberty, MO; daughter-in-law, Donna Huddleston of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Thelma M. Griffin of Ardmore.
