Barbara Jean (Bates) Tate

October 22, 1928 ~ April 23, 2020 (age 91)


Barbara Jean (Bates) Tate of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Norman, Oklahoma died Thursday, April 23, 2020, in Edmond, Oklahoma.


A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2020.


Mrs. Tate was born October 22, 1928, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Eugene Thomas and Pearl (Fagan) Bates.  She attended school in Ada, Oklahoma where she met Kermit Tate.  They were married on September 13, 1945 in Texas.  They moved to Norman in 1960.  She was a homemaker but also spent many years working at City National Bank in Norman.  She was a member of the Alameda Church of Christ in Norman.  She loved Kermit and her “boys” very much.  She enjoyed playing golf as well as being accomplished at cross stitch.  She also enjoyed the occasional trip to Riverwind where penny slots and people watching were both entertaining.


Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her husband; infant grand-daughter, Angela Tate; and daughter-in-law, Karen Tate.  Survivors include two sons, Ronald E. Tate and wife Linda of Edmond, OK, and Ken R. Tate and wife Shannon of Oklahoma City, OK; six grandchildren, Kerri Williams and husband Drew of McKinney, TX, Greg Tate and wife Megan of Yukon, OK, Katie Hull and husband Toby of Oklahoma City, OK, Matt Williams and wife Lisa of Tulsa, OK, Mandy Rankin and husband Todd of Oklahoma City, OK, Annie Anderson and husband Jordan of Oklahoma City, OK; twelve great-grandchildren, Thomas Williams of McKinney, TX, Jackson Williams, Rett Williams of Tulsa, OK, Presley Tate, Parker Tate, Paige Tate, of Yukon, OK, AJ Rankin, Ava Rankin, Stella Rankin, Beckett Rankin, Magnolia Anderson, and Phoenix Anderson, all of Oklahoma City, OK.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
