Bobby Joe Lain

Bobby Joe Lain, 88, of Norman, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Norman Veterans Center in Norman, OK. Joe was born October 26, 1929 in Gainesville, TX to Mike and Belinda Lain. Joe grew up in Norman and graduated from Norman High School. After High School he entered the U.S. Navy serving until 1954. He married Audra Shaver on March 13, 1953 in Virginia. They returned to Oklahoma in 1954 and Joe enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, retiring in 1982. Joe was especially proud of his time as a crew member on the KC-97 “Talking Bird” during the Kennedy and Johnson presidencies where he provided Presidential communication security. Joe loved playing basketball and softball eventually becoming the commissioner for the AAA Softball League. Joe loved his family and enjoyed camping and all OU sports, frequently traveling out of town to watch his favorite team. He also had a fun loving spirit with all that were close to him, giving everyone a nickname and using that in lieu of their real names.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Audra of Norfolk, VA; son, Garry Lain and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Linda Warford; grandchildren, Carynn Smith and husband, Jeremy and Ryan Warford and 4 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 Brothers and 2 Sisters.
Services are under the care of Havenbrook Funeral Home and will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Ft. Sill National Cemetery, 2648 N.E. Jake Dunn Rd., Elgin, OK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the scholarship fund of the Gray Eagles Retiree Association of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, 5624 Air Guard Dr., Box 28, Oklahoma City, OK 73179.
