Buford Kenneth “BK” Shaw II, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on January 30, 2018. He was born April 20, 1945 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Buford and Edna (Hart) Shaw.
As the son of a career Marine, BK lived in many locations around the country including Norfolk, Virginia, San Diego, California, Ft. Worth, Texas, but home was always Oklahoma, with the school year spent in Norman and summers in Henryetta. He was a Norman High School graduate, Class of 1963. He briefly attended the University of Oklahoma, leaving to pursue technical school in the field of electronics which developed into a 35 year career as a computer systems tester at Western Electric/AT&T.
BK was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Walter “Butch”.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Louella “Lou”, their two children Missy Hayes and Jerry Shaw, four grandchildren Christopher Hayes, Ciarra Osborne and her husband, honorary grandson Nathan, Valarie Shaw, and Jared Shaw. He had three great grandchildren Darius Hayes, Brennan Osborne, and Marley Osborne. He was looking forward to the arrival of his fourth great grandchild Corbin Osborne, who will join the family in a matter of days.
BK was a devoted outdoorsman. He spent years helping with Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was dedicated to teaching young people safe hunting and firearms skills as an Oklahoma Hunter Safety Education Instructor as well as a Range Safety Officer at the Tri City Gun Club, where he was a life member. He spent hours on the sidelines of soccer and football fields, concert halls, and parade routes cheering on his kids, grandkids, and ultimately his great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to one of BK’s favorite causes: the Veteran’s Appreciation Breakfast, which is held annually at Tiffany’s Restaurant in Noble, OK. Donations can be mailed to Community Aide, PO Box 764, Noble, OK 73068. Please place “veterans” on the memo line.
