Burt Eugene Stevens passed peacefully on February 23, 2023, at his home in Norman. He was born in Borger, Texas, on October 14, 1953, to Garland and Wanda (Clawson) Stevens. Burt was a proud citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He spent his younger years in Kilgore and Odessa, Texas, before the family moved to Norman, Oklahoma. As a youngster, his first job was a paperboy for the Norman Transcript, and in his teen years, he worked at the first Sonic in Norman (now Classic 50's). He graduated from Norman High School in 1971.
In March of 1972, Burt enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1978 as an Aircraft mechanic. He was stationed on the USS Enterprise and cruised around the world. He also served on the USS Constellation and the USS Kitty Hawk. When Burt returned home after his service in the Navy, he was hired at Tinker Air Force Base where he was a civilian employee until his retirement. He also served in the Naval Reserve from 1991 until 2005, and retired as an Aviation Ordnanceman First Class.
Burt loved playing golf and enjoyed watching it on TV as well. He also loved spending time with his great nephews and nieces. He was funny and droll and a man of few words.
Burt was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Wanda Stevens; his grandparents, Eulin and Jewell Stevens, Carl and Bernice Clawson; his nephew, Marshall J. Smith; and several cousins. He is survived by his brother, Carl Stevens; sisters, Linda Stevens Bagimilh (Craig), Beverly Zee Stevens (Layne), Cindy Stevens-Smith (Gary); nieces, Tracy Pavlinetz (Mike), Monette Smith, Bekah Hightower (Andy), Rachel Stevens, Emily Stevens; nephew, Daniel Smith; ten great nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
