Clay Gammon was born to Ray and Madgie (Graham) Gammon on September 29, 1923 near Konawa OK. They later moved to a farm near Marland, OK, on land once belonging to the 101 ranch.
After graduating High School in Three Sands, OK, he entered the Army Air Corp in 1942. He flew combat missions over Germany as a tail gunner. He served in Korea, where he received a direct commission to Lt.
In June of 1953, he married Phyllis Jean Quigley. He had a 3-year assignment in Wiesbaden Germany. His son, Kerry Clay Gammon was born in Wiesbaden Germany in 1959. On return to the US he was assigned to San Antonio, TX. His daughter Jana Lynn Gammon was born there in 1964.
Continuing his career, he served two tours in Vietnam. The last Air Force assignment was at headquarters Air Force Systems Command in Washington D.C. He retired from the Air Force in August in the year 1972 completing a distinguished thirty-year career.
He is survived by his wife; Phyllis Gammon of the home, his son; Kerry Gammon and wife Dietra of Norman, his daughter; Jana Bruen and husband Jim of Plainfield, IL, chosen daughter; Vin White and husband Barry of Norman, special friend; Debbie Blankenship and husband Keith of Norman, grandchildren; Chris Gammon of Norman, Kara Ruiz and husband Jaime of Moore, Katie Smallwood and husband Nick of Norman, Abbie Bruen of Plainfield, IL, Danny Bruen of Plainfield, IL, great grandchildren; Chloe Hill of Moore and Beau Smallwood of Norman.
Visitation will be 1:00p.m. – 8:00p.m., Monday, November 12, 2018 at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 2:00p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel.
