Cynthia Belle Blanton
May 4, 1942 ~ January 20, 2024 (age 81) 81 Years Old
Cynthia Belle Blanton was born May 4, 1942, in Billings, Montana, to Agnes and Richie Carlson and later adopted by her stepfather, Otis Cox. Growing up in Montana, Cindy loved the outdoors, spending time with her lil’ sister/best friend, Audrey, and listening to Sports on the radio including Sooner Football on KOMA.
She met the love of her life, Michael Cochran, while in high school. Even though the family got transferred to Oklahoma, Cindy’s senior year where she graduated from Ponca City High School, she and Michael kept their love going strong and got married soon after graduation. Mike was drafted, but prior to leaving for Vietnam, they had a baby, Michael Cochran, Jr. Sadly, Mike never made it home from the war.
While living in Boulder, Cindy got her pilots license, remarried, and had two more children, Barry and Scott Blanton. After getting divorced, Cindy moved to Norman, Oklahoma, to obtain her master’s in education at OU. She became an elementary school teacher and was devoted to touching the lives of students for over 40 years. Cindy coached her boys to many City Championships in little league baseball, was a second mom to all her kid’s friends, and she lived a life devoted to family and friends. She was an incredible devoted mom and raised her kids to be independent, which allowed her to spoil her grandkids, taking them all over the country from Disney to Hawaii. She was a season ticket holder to OKC Thunder and was always a devoted OU alumnus and fan.
Cynthia passed on January 20, 2024, at her home in Norman surrounded by her entire family. She is survived by her sister, Audrey Akers; son, Michael Cochran, Jr. and wife Susan and their three children, Jenni, Mikey, and Cody; son, Barry and wife Megaen and their three children, Taylor, Cooper, and Peyton; and son, Scott and his daughter, Reese and fiancé Jacqueline.
In lieu of flowers, Cynthia requested donations be made to Wilson Elementary School PTA.
