Doris Ilene (Dean) Whinery
August 18, 1931 ~ January 13, 2024 (age 92) 92 Years Old
Doris Ilene (Dean) Whinery passed away on January 13, 2024, quietly at home at the age of 92. She was born, grew up and graduated from high school in Scott City, Kansas. She attended both Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, and Kansas City University, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was married to Leo H. Whinery, Alfred P. Murrah Professor of Law at OU, who preceded her in death in 2012.
Doris was a stenographer for the F.B.I., a legal secretary and a medical secretary. She was Program coordinator for Engineering, Scientific and Technical Programs at the Oklahoma Center for Continuing Education from 1975-1990.
She was a life member of the National Federation of Music Club, held many offices in this organization and received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Doris was the second vice president of the newly organized OU Friends of Music at the OU School of Music. Doris joined the El Libris Book Review Club, and was a member of the P.E.O. Organization of Norman. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Norman.
Doris lived a life of service, serving in many offices throughout the years in various organizations. She was 92 years young and was very active.
Doris is survived by two sons, Leo and Michael; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Her family was very important to her.
