E. Jean Burleson

Elva “Jean” Burleson, passed away August 3, 2020 at the age of 89.  She was born October 27, 1930 to Earle R. Shoemaker and Willie L. (Lewis) Shoemaker in Weatherford, Oklahoma.  During the Depression Era, they lived in Taloga, Oklahoma and moved to California in 1935.  They returned to Weatherford and except for years during WWII, lived there. 

She graduated Weatherford HS in 1948 and moved to Norman in 1949 where she met and married the love of her life, James E. Burleson.  They made their home in Norman and together raised one son, James Earle. 

Jean was employed at the Norman Municipal Hospital and retired from the now Norman Regional Hospital in 1991. 

Jean was preceded in death by grandparents; parents; infant daughter, Barbara; and sister Faye Stafford. 

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James E. Burleson; son James “Jack” Burleson and wife Julie; six grandchildren: Christa Gatewood and husband Chris, James E. Burleson, II and wife Stephanie, Nathan Burleson and Stephanie, John Culbreath and wife Maureen; Ian Harris Burleson and wife Kayla, and Brian J. Burleson; great grandchildren Alex, Mikey, Amelia and Lilly Gatewood, James E. “Trey” Burleson, III, Aidan Burleson, Max, Charlee and Lilly Claire Culbreath, Cruz and Fenix Burleson; brother-in-law, Tom Stafford; nieces, Karin and Dionne Stafford and their families; the extended family of Sherri Culbreath, Kittie Burleson and her beloved Snickelfritz.
