Libby McNellis, age 99, was born May 27, 1921 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Fannie (Weidman) Stoner.
She passed away May 7th, 2021 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She graduated from Sunbury High School in 1939 and married William “Bill” J. McNellis on November 24, 1946 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania. The family moved to Norman in 1966 when Bill was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base from Olmsted Air Force Base as a civilian employee.
After moving to Norman, Libby was employed by the School of Home Economics at the University of Oklahoma for nine years, then for Criswell, Murrell, Hall and McIntosh, certified Public Accountants for ten years, when she retired in 1986.
She has been a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church since 1966 as well as a member of the Two-In-One Sunday School class, where she faithfully attended.
Libby loved letters and was a member of Sooner Scribes for a number of years. As a member of the Pfaff Club for many years, she enjoyed sewing and crafts. She attended Ceramics Workshop at the Norman Senior Citizens Center making her own greeting cards, using calligraphy for the messages. Since 1970, she was a member of the American Business Women’s Association, providing scholarships for young women.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill McNellis, her brother, Robert J. Stoner, and sister, Dorothy S. Picton.
Libby is survived by her daughter, Marilyn K. Wadley of Norman, and son, Robert J. McNellis of Riverview, Florida and three grandchildren, Krista Mullican and husband Jimmy of Denison, Texas, John Wadley and wife Jennifer of Edmond, Oklahoma and Lindsay Hurley and husband Matt of Lakeland, Florida. Libby is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Avery Mullican, Alexis and Dylan Wadley, and Mia Hurley. She is also survived by a niece, Sandy Geist.
