Eual Dean 'Sonny' Shatswell

Eual Dean ‘Sonny’ Shatswell, age 84, of Bridge Creek, passed away Friday, October 2, 2020.  He was born November 9, 1935, to the late Ben and Belle Shatswell, in Eufaula, OK, where he grew up.  On May 30, 1958, he married Retha Lee Spray.  They moved to Tuttle, OK, in 1967.  Sonny was a carpenter by trade, and after retirement, he continued woodworking, building cabinets, coffee tables and entertainment centers.  He enjoyed fishing gardening, and he made wonderful pecan pies.  Sonny was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Retha; five children, Sheila Ryan of Bridge Creek, Darrell Jones and wife Barbara of Norman, Howard Dean Shatwell and wife Andrea of Blanchard, Keith Shatwell and wife Kathy of Tuttle, and Lonnie Shatwell of Bridge Creek; ten grandchildren, James Ryan, Jr. of Kansas, Bradley Ryan of Wellston, Angel Gray of Mustang, Jennifer Jones of Texas, Hilary Childress of Blanchard, Matt Shatwell of Lawton, Kayse Foster of Tuttle, Kari Rodriguez of Tuttle, Jessica Shatwell of California and Sarah Shatwell of Oklahoma City; eighteen great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Billy Shatt and wife Geradline of Moore, and Donald Shatwell and wife Pat of Tuttle; and one sister, Athajean Flood of Eufaula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Ryan, Sr.; two grandsons, Jaired Ryan and Josh Shatwell; one granddaughter, Margie Michelle Ryan; one great grandson, Jaired Ray Ryan; two brothers; and four sisters.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Tuttle First Assembly of God.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle.
