Eugene 'Gene' Walter Hansmeyer

December 22, 1932 ~ April 25, 2022 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Eugene Walter Hansmeyer was born on December 22, 1932, in Norman, Oklahoma.  Gene passed away peacefully, with his entire family by his side, on April 25, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma.

Gene spent his childhood years growing up on the farm and working alongside his dad.  He graduated from Norman High School in 1950.  Gene enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War.  After returning, he married the love of his life, Nancy, who was by his side for 68 years.  Their family was complete after the birth of their two children, Kim and Todd.

Gene worked for OG&E for seven years and then started his business as an electrical contractor.  He owned and operated Gene Hansmeyer Electric for 17 years and contracted work as far as Seattle, Washington.  He retired at the age of 47 and began working on his dream home on his beloved 160-acre ranch east of Norman, where he ran 150 head of cattle.  In 2013, Gene's desire to be closer to his children led him to build a new home on the farm where he grew up.

Gene's passion for travel and adventure led him to build a cabin in the Colorado Rockies that his family continues to enjoy.  He enjoyed Jeeping in the mountains, which eventually led to riding ATVs with the entire family as late as last June.

Gene surrendered his life to Christ at the age of 30 and was a faithful follower and servant until Jesus called him home.  His greatest desire was for all his children and grandchildren to be followers of Christ.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ethel Hansmeyer; and brother-in-law, Marlin McGuire.

He is survived by his loving family: wife, Nancy; sister, Sharon McGuire; his daughter, Kim Pitt and husband Jim Pitt; his son, Todd Hansmeyer and wife Dema Hansmeyer; six grandchildren, Krista Pitt-Jones and husband Paul, Ryan Pitt and wife Ashley, Gage Crook, Zachary Hansmeyer, Gracelyn Hansmeyer, and Ezekiel Hansmeyer; seven great-grandchildren, Bailey Jones, Reece Jones, Carter Jones, Adelyn Jones, Hadley Jones, Adler Pitt, and Graysen Pitt.
