Franklin ‘Frank’ G. Harmon passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in his home, at the age of 99 years old.  He was born February 24, 1921, in Norman, Oklahoma, to the late James Edward Harmon and Melvina Moon Harmon.  Frank served his country in the 3rd Infantry Division, U.S. Army in World War II.  He fought in North Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Austria.  He also served in the 1st Infantry Division in Africa.  Frank was wounded twice, received three Purple Hearts, five Bronze Stars and numerous other medals and honors.  After returning from military duty, Frank began his civilian career of 40 years at Benham Engineering Company as a civil engineer.  Frank enjoyed woodworking, especially making furniture, both indoor and outdoor.  On August 30, 1946, Frank married the love of his life, Leona A. Harmon, who preceded him in death on November 19, 2019.  A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed.

 

Survivors include his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dillon and Trisha Meyer and great-great grandson Cameron of the home; Courtney Meyer and Jordyn Donaldson of Norman, Rachel Meyer (Raney) and Curtis Raney of Norman, Lani and Matthew Braddy of Rattan, Jessi Harmon of Antlers, Cherie and Ron Weyand of Moore, Jacob Meyer of Broken Arrow, Jordan Meyer of Oklahoma City; nine additional great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; niece, Laura and Ron Schault of Oklahoma City; nephew, Terry and Sharon Nations of Missouri; son-in-law, Paul Meyer and Deborah Ball of Norman; family friends, Daniel and Mary Cross; and a host of additional family and friends.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was preceded in death by his children, Shirley Louise Meyer and Michael Ray Harmon; grandchildren, Chris Allen Meyer and Gary Wayne Meyer; six sisters, Florence, Margaret, Iva, Winnie, Geneva and Mildred; and three brothers, John, Charlie and Lester.

 

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, March 14, 2020, at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman.
