Geraldine Ann Whitman

November 4, 1932 ~ December 13, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Geraldine Whitman, of Norman, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.  Gerry was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1932, to George and Alice St. Cyr as the tenth of eleven children.  She graduated from Belmont High School and Winslow School in Boston.  She then worked for United Carr Fastener Corporation in Cambridge until 1957.  She married Earl Whitman in 1956, and was a Navy wife for 20 years.  She was the mother of five children born in six years, and lived in nine states.  During the Navy years, she participated in many activities involving both the children and Navy life.  Earl and Gerry’s Navy duty stations concluded in Mechanicsburg, PA.  She was the glue that kept the family going during many location change transitions and periods of Earl’s absence.

After the children were grown and moving to Norman in 1975, she worked at the University of Oklahoma College of Continuing Education for eight years.  She then followed her calling and subsequently became the Administrative Secretary at St. Thomas More University Parish where she worked for ten years prior to her retirement in 1996.  She provided a kind and sympathetic welcome to all parishioners and visitors.  She was also active in the Parish serving as a Eucharistic Minister and as Secretary of St. Vincent de Paul Society assisting needy families in Norman.  Additionally, she coordinated the Parish’s work at Food and Shelter for Friends.  Gerry enjoyed aerobics, tennis, walking and the many travels and cruises her and Earl embarked upon.  She played an outstanding role as a loving grandmother to their six grandchildren.  Gerry was truly an amazing and loving person who gave so much of herself to benefit her family and her church.

She is survived by five children, Kathleen Whitman of Norman, OK, David Whitman and his husband Peter Stiglin of Sheffield, MA, Patricia Pemberton and her husband Mickey of Pottsboro, TX, Pamela Price and her husband Steve of Oklahoma City, OK, and Kenneth Whitman and his fiancée Monica Ruh of Dallas, TX.  Gerry is also survived by her six grandchildren, Shane Pemberton, Megan and Christopher Price, Sarah, Kristen and Alicia Whitman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Boston, New England and other Eastern states.  Gerry was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters in the Boston area.
