Hayes Preston Ohler

Hayes Preston Ohler, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday June 22, 2019 in Norman, Oklahoma.
He was born on May 4, 1932, in Perry Oklahoma, son of Hayes Benton and Mary Ellen Ohler. Hayes graduated from Central High School in 1950 and was united in marriage on November 20, 1952, to Barbara Dean Boyd. After graduation Hayes served in the Naval Reserve as a sonar technician for 12 years. He joined the Oklahoma City Police Department in 1959 and retired in 1979 a Senior Patrol Sargent. Briefly he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Cleveland County in Norman. Hayes completed his Electrical Contractor’s license and finished his career working for Griffin Memorial Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma retiring in 1997. After retirement he enjoyed bird watching, gardening and was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church. He cared for his wife Barbara after her lung transplant until she passed away in 2012.
Hayes is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Dean Ohler and his sister Bonnie Statz. He is survived by his brother, Norman Ohler;  sisters, Patricia Rogers, Martha Young and Barbara Tanner; children, Gwen Tiller, Stewart Ohler, "Angie" Ohler and "Ben" Ohler; grandchildren, Heather Gold, Brian Nelson, Christian Ohler and Joseph Ohler; and great-grandchildren, Mattox Nelson, Hensley Nelson, Eric Gold and Allison Gold.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.act.alz.org). Visitation will be held 1-8 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havebrook St, Norman OK. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 603 Classen Blvd., Norman, Oklahoma, with interment following in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Oklahoma City. Arrangements for Hayes and his family were placed in the care of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
