Helen Marie Honatke Morrison
November 16, 1930 – September 24, 2021
Helen Morrison died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Norman on September 24. Born to John and Anna Sivy Honatke on November 16, 1930, Helen would have celebrated her 91st birthday this year. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with a quick wit and a passion for books, travel, gardening, and serving others.
Helen was born and raised in Aliquippa, PA. She married Lt. Col. Patton North Morrison in June of 1953. Together, they raised four exceptional children and celebrated over 50 years of marriage prior to his death in 2006. Pat’s military career took them to many places, including two stints in Germany, before they settled in Norman upon his retirement in 1970. As an empty nester, Helen completed a Bachelor’s of Arts in Education as well as graduate work in Library Science at St. John’s University. A true lifelong learner, Helen also enjoyed attending lectures and events at the University of Oklahoma. She was a devoted member of St. Thomas More University Parish for many decades and served there by tending to the altar linens for 10 years. Helen was also involved in the Military Wives’ Club, Master Gardener’s Association, and Full Circle Caregivers groups and had visited all 50 states.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Honatke; siblings Irene, John, Margaret, and Wilma; husband Patton; and son Drew. Surviving her are her sons, Scott and Mark; daughter Barbara; daughters in law Beth and Mary Lynn; 17 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas More Music Ministry or to St. Vincent de Paul.
