Irene Barbosa, 73, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on September 11, 2021. She was born to parents, Clemente Gallegos and Margarita Rodriguez, on February 29, 1948, in Lorenzo, Texas. She adored being a “leap year” baby.
Irene graduated from Garden City High School in 1965. She had many jobs, including mother, but also worked as a Caregiver for more than 15 years. She left the workforce in 2020.
Irene enjoyed cooking all kinds of Mexican food, but her signature was her homemade enchiladas. Always working on a craft, she loved to sew, but is probably best remembered for her crochet and plastic canvas work. She entered many county and state fairs with her crafts, winning numerous blue ribbons.
Irene had seven children: the late Ida Barrera, Saul Barrera and family of Greely, CO, Osbaldo Barrera and family of Dodge City, KS, Gavino Barrera of Odessa, TX, Albert Gallegos of Tulsa, OK, the late Miguel Barbosa, Andrew Barbosa and family of Norman, OK, and Joshua Barbosa of Guymon, OK. She is survived by sister, Maria Yolanda Morales of Kansas City, KS; and brother, Carlos Gallegos of Okmulgee, OK. Irene has numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews who are also mourning and celebrating her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clemente Gallegos; mother, Margarita Rodriguez; daughter, Ida Barrera; and son, Miguel Barbosa.
