Tribute

James Reed Hoggan, loving husband and father of six children, passed away on March 11, 2022, at the age of 67, in Norman, Oklahoma after a brief battle with brain cancer. He was born July 9, 1954 in Burley, Idaho to James and Margie Hoggan and grew up in Preston, Idaho, oldest of four children. On June 16, 1978, he married Vickie Lynn Cartwright and together they had six children and built a legacy of faith, loyalty, and generosity.

Reed treasured his family above all else and taught his children the value of hard work, education, and sacrifice. He was always happy and willing to come to his children’s rescue. Whether it was a late night school project, a scouting misadventure, or a computer mishap, he would be there to steady, guide, and encourage. He adored all 9 of his grandchildren and was eager to hear of their accomplishments.

Reed led a long and successful career with Boeing as an electrical engineer for 41 years where his hard work and contributions were highly valued. He loved chess and was an excellent player. He enjoyed anything space-related, science fiction books and movies, even the cheesy ones. Reed had a quick wit and loved a good play on words. Whenever he said something clever he would quickly look your way with a slight grin to see if you would laugh with him. He played the piano and organ and was always willing to play for a church meeting.

Reed faithfully served his Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ through his devoted church service and steadfast faith. He served as a missionary in England and Wales for two years as a young adult sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He blessed the lives of countless others through his time, talents, and generosity of spirit. We will always remember his fervent prayers and blessings and selfless acts of service.

Reed was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen, and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Vickie; his son, James Lindsey Hoggan and his wife, Kaytryn, and their three daughters; his daughter, Shauna Beede and her husband, Rodney, and their three daughters; his daughter Alison Dinkel and her husband, Eric, and their three children; his son Devin Hoggan and his wife, Brittany; and his daughter Dana Mundell and her husband, Casey; his sisters Kathy Larsen, Merianne Lawlor, and Kay Williams; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Many thanks to Alpha Hospice for their kindness and support in Reed’s final days.
