Jan Hunter

Mildred Jannell Hunter, 79, of Norman passed to her heavenly home after suffering a heart attack on Saturday, August 7, 2021.  Jan was born September 6, 1941 in Round Mountain, Arkansas to Hugh and Phala (Fuller) Crandell.

For the first 10 years of her life, Jan grew up in Arkansas.  She later moved to California where she attended Sanger High School.  At age 18, she married Ron Hames and they moved to Norman, Oklahoma where they started a family. She was a homemaker and later worked for John Roberts Ring Company, C.R. Anthony Co. and United Design in Noble. In her retirment she served as a Resident Board member for the Norman Housing Authority.  Jan was a devout Christian and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  Murrs, as she was affectionately called by many, loved to travel, read a good book, cook for her family and cherished the time she spent with family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Phala Crandell, siblings Hugh Crandell Jr., Cathryn Walk, Bob Crandell, and Barbara Evert and her husband of 12 years, Kenneth Hunter.  She is survived by her son, Ronnie Hames of Norman; daughter Debbie Finnell and husband Butch of Maumelle, Arkansas; son Eric Hames and wife Kim of Edmond, Oklahoma.  She was blessed to have three grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Tyler Finnell, his wife Brianna and their son Foster of Springdale, Arkansas; Blake Finnell, his wife Kyndall and their children Evie and Garner of Maumelle, Arkansas; and Rondell Hames, his wife Bridget of Norman, Oklahoma.

A wake service will be held Thursday, August 12th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman.  Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday, August 13th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with graveside service following at  Norman IOOF cemetery. Masks are encouraged. Memorials can be made in memory of Jan to Catholic Charities.
