Johnnie Spears, 78, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away Monday, January 22, 2018. He was born July 24th, 1939, in Norman, Oklahoma to John Earl Spears and Bonnie Burress Spears. Johnnie grew up in Norman and attended Norman Public Schools. Johnnie served in the U.S. Air Force, and was a lifelong Shriner; he also served as a fire fighter for over 15 years in both Norman and Ft. Worth Fire Departments.
Johnnie enjoyed fishing, farming, playing bingo and watching OU football on the weekends. He was an animal lover when he was a boy; he was known to bring many animals home as a child and he had his beloved dog by his side up to his last day, Susie II. Johnnie was always a “cut up” and enjoyed teasing the grandkids.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, John Spears and Bonnie Burress Spears.
He is survived by his wife Margrit Spears of 42 years, his two daughters; Debbie Jettun and husband Carl from Texas and Alexandra Howe and husband Troy from Tennessee; granddaughters: April Rowe and husband Tye, Taylor Martin and husband Dylan and Paige Howe; grandson, Trent Howe, great-grandchildren Luke, Jake, and Mason; brother; Darrell Spears and wife Vickie; sisters, Mae Isaacs, Marjorie Hicks and Kathy Brookins and her husband Don, and beloved sister In-law Elfriede Pfister, along with ,many other family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in memory of Johnnie Spears to the American Diabetes Association.
