June L. Holyfield

September 19, 1941 ~ June 23, 2022 (age 80)

Tribute

June L. Holyfield, Norman resident, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, after a brief illness.  June joined her late husband, Don, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home.

June was born in Elk City on September 19, 1941, to Lewis and Dessie Weist.  She had one brother, Bob Weist, and she cherished her memories of riding with him on his motorcycle and going to afternoon movies.

June graduated from Elk City High School in 1959, and soon after began work with Southwestern Bell as an operator.  She married Don Holyfield and had one daughter, Sherry.  After moving to Norman, June continued her thirty-year career with Southwestern Bell and was promoted to Area Manager and Force Manager.  June received numerous awards and recognition for her leadership, pursuit of excellence and customer relations.  June was well respected as a manager because she put her group of employees first.  She maintained her relationships with her group throughout her life.

When playing games with family or friends, the competitive June came out especially when it came to PacMan or Wahoo.  June loved playing the piano and one cannot overlook the fact that she was a huge Elvis fan.

Elementary catholic school began her walk with God.  She continued growing in faith throughout her life and held tight to Psalm 27:1.  The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?

Strength comes in many shapes, and hers was quiet, deep thinking, and deep feeling.  She touched many lives and gave encouragement to those who needed it.  She was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She will continue to shine in our hearts.

June is survived by her immediate family, her daughter Sherry and husband Mike Brock; two grandchildren, Michael Brock, wife Kaity, and great grandson Carter; Kimberly Timm and husband Wes.

Funeral services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norman Animal Welfare Center, 3428 Jenkins Ave, Norman, OK 73072.
