Mary Katherine Hatley, 77, of Norman, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, July 2, 2018. She was born May 21, 1941 in Norman to Burnice (Peewee) and Arlene Brown Perrin. Mary married the love of her life, Patrick Bishop Hatley on August 29, 1958 and they made their home in Norman. She was a 1959 graduate of Norman High School. Mary had a successful career with the City of Norman lasting nearly 42 years. She began in the Parks & Recreation Department in 1966 and then moved on to become the City Clerk, a job she truly loved for 32 years. She was known as an institution, the soul of the City, and the quiet strength behind 10 mayors, nine city managers and 84 councilmembers. Former mayor Bill Nations was quoted as saying “She’s just too good. Knows too much. Works too smart. Cares more than anyone else. That’s what she’s about.” She served on various boards throughout the City of Norman. More recently serving on the Center for Children and Families (CCFI) and Aging Services Board of Directors. After retirement from the City of Norman in 2008, she gladly volunteered her time and vast knowledge working in the office at Crosspointe Church. Mary and Pat loved to travel and they especially loved spending time with family and friends. Mary was always a fan of playing games with the kids and with friends and even had a regular game of bridge with some of her City of Norman co-workers over lunch breaks. She had a zest for life and her booming laughter will certainly be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Drew Crane; granddaughter, Audrey Hatley; and brother, David Perrin. Survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Patrick Bishop Hatley; her daughter, LeAnn Crane; her son Tom Hatley and wife Janita Hatley; grandchildren, Katie Crane and husband Edwin Facundo, Kylie Crane, Gabrielle and Madeline Stapp; great-grandchildren Giovanni Facundo and Sebastian Stapp. The family will be present to receive friends during visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Services to remember Mary will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2018 at Crosspointe Church, 2601 24th Ave S.E., officiated by Pastor Joe Grizzle with interment following at IOOF Cemetery in Norman. Memorials may be made in memory of Mary Hatley to Cleveland County Aging Services or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
