Mary Ann Hedrick

March 1, 1937 ~ July 26, 2021 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

Mary Ann Hedrick, age 84, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away Monday, July 26, 2021.  She was born March 1, 1937 in Tupelo, Mississippi, to Grada and Charles Moore.

She graduated from Pontotoc, High School.  She also attended Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Memphis Tennessee and received her RN in nursing.  While in nursing school, Mary Ann met James Doyal Hedrick to whom she was married in 1962, the weekend after she graduated from nursing school, and enjoyed a marriage spanning 58 years.

Mary Ann worked for Norman Regional hospital for over 30 years.  She particularly enjoyed working in the orthopedic wing of the hospital.  Later in her career she worked on the X-Ray floor and ultimately became a trusted, knowledgeable mentor who was called upon to train other nurses at the hospital.  She was so knowledgeable that they continued to utilize her as a training specialist for several years after she stopped working directly with patients.

Outside of work, Mary Ann was active at Norman’s First Baptist Church for many years and served there as a Sunday School teacher. Her love of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ was obvious by the attention to detail with which she studied and prepared materials and lessons for her students.  Mary Ann lived her life for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ each and every day of her life.

Mary Ann and Doyal enjoyed spending time traveling the globe.  They traveled to Germany, Italy, Japan, Israel, Jerusalem, and almost all 50 of the United States.

Mary Ann’s care and concern extended not only to people, but also to animals.  She owned a horse, raised chickens and ducks, and had numerous cats and dogs throughout the years. She loved bird watching.  The birds and animals provided her not only comfort, but also were a valuable addition to raising her family.

Mary Ann was interested in people from all walks of life, from every corner of the globe.  She always wanted to meet everyone and didn’t know a stranger.  She made everyone feel very welcome with her kindness and sweetness.  Mary Ann will be missed by everyone with whom she was always thrilled to meet.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James Doyal Hedrick, her parents, Grada and Charles Moore, and her brother, John Moore.  She is survived by her son James Robert Hedrick and daughter Mary Lynn (Hedrick) Murdock.  She is also survived by her four grandchildren, James Douglas Hedrick, John Ross Hedrick, Sean Murdock and Kevin Murdock.

Flowers can be sent to the Havenbrook  Funeral Home.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Norman First Baptist Church (211 West Comanche, Norman Oklahoma 73069).
