Melba Rose Haddican

Tribute

Melba Rose Haddican was born to George A. and Otilda R. Mitchell on October 9th, 1930 in Anthony, Kansas and passed away peacefully on July 8th, 2022. She graduated from Wakita High School in 1949. Upon graduation, she owned and operated her own beauty shop in Wakita, Oklahoma when she was 18 years old. She married Robert L. Haddican of Medford, Oklahoma on July 19, 1951 in Enid, Oklahoma. Robert and Melba settled in Norman Oklahoma and have been residents since 1955. Melba was a longtime member of Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. Melba was very active in school PTA programs and loved having coffee and visiting with many of her long- time friends in the neighborhood. Melba’s true passion was creating art as she was active in ceramics, sewing, furniture refinishing/upholstery and painting. She also enjoyed gardening and always loved learning about new cultivars. She enjoyed sharing her talents with everyone. She was always dedicated to doing her best and she had a very strong work ethic.

 

Melba is survived by Robert, her husband of 70 years. She is survived by two sons, Robert B. Haddican and wife Deborah of Norman, Oklahoma and Timothy K. Haddican and wife Christine ‘Mickey’ of Edmond, Oklahoma. Three beloved grandchildren Kaitlin Hagain and husband Brandon, Allison Haddican and partner Mitch Layne, and Brandon Haddican. Four great-grandchildren Kinsley McKinley, Addilee Hagain, Harper Hagain and Liam Hagain. Melba always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren doing arts and crafts. Many thanks to the Rivermont Gardens staff, the HarborChase South staff and Excell Hospice for providing care for Melba.

 

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Goodrich Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman, with internment to follow at 2:30p.m. at Wakita Cemetery in Wakita, Oklahoma. Online condolences may be shared at www.havenbrookfuneralhome.com
