Michael Daniel 'Mike' Banks

June 2, 1971 ~ April 14, 2022 (age 50)

Michael Daniel Banks, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away on April 14, 2022, at the age of 50.  He was born on June 2, 1971, in Augsburg, Germany, to John and Inga Banks.

The first year of Mike’s life was spent in Germany, and the family moved to Oklahoma in 1972.  In 1976, Mike became a big brother to Chris.  Throughout their lives, the two brothers often fought or disagreed about one thing or another, no matter what, they always had each other’s back.

Mike received his education through the Norman Public School system.  He got a little wild in his teens.  First, it was 4-wheeling at the river, then Mike got a taste for speed.  Unfortunately, he could never get over a ¼ throttle, so he said.  Mike learned, always the hard way, when he got his first motorcycle, what happens when you go full throttle.  One thing that slowed Mike down was his long-time girlfriend and future wife, Lori Coffeen, and they had two beautiful children together.

Throughout his life, Mike had many interest and hobbies that he shared with family and friends.  He never shied away from a good time.  Mike enjoyed going to bars and shooting a game of pool with friends.  He could also be found at the lake fishing on his kayak or on a boat with his friends.  Mike always had a fondness for flying.  He and his brother, Chris, got into flying RC airplanes together on the weekends.

When he wasn’t having a good time, Mike was taking care of his responsibilities.  He started a career in the towing industry which led him into the trucking industry.  Mike faced many hardships throughout his life which led him to his brother Chris’ home.  He spent quite a few years living at Chris’ home with the help of his sister-in-law, Tamara.  Mike always had family to help him out and have his back in his time of need.  Mike wouldn’t hesitate to help anyone if he could, as shown throughout his life.  Most recently, Mike assisted his father and step-mother, and he babysat for his grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Inga E. Banks; paternal grandparents, Carol O. Banks and Louise E. Banks; and maternal grandparents, Alfred Langer and Gertrud Langer.

He is survived by his father and step mother, John and Patty Banks; son, Nathan Banks and his wife Haley; daughter, Jessica Banks and her partner Julian Lopez; brother, Chris Banks and his wife Tamara; sister, Melisa Wood and her husband Dr. Frank Wood; brother, Bradley Banks; step brothers, Steven Shackelford and Michael Shackelford; step sister, Heather Shackelford; grandson, Daniel Banks; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
