Michael August Flemig II July 13, 1980 – July 5, 2019 Michael August Flemig II passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 5, 2019 at the age of 38. Michael will always be remembered by his wife and best friend Catherine, his mother Jo, his father Michael Sr., his stepmother Mary, his sister Lucy, his stepsister Kim, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, extended family and dear friends. Michael was born and raised in Norman, Oklahoma. He was an accomplished musician and graduated from Norman North in 1999. Michael played viola with the Norman North Orchestra and was always 1st or 2nd chair. Michael was also part of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra. The experience and the memories, he said he would always cherish. Michael’s passion for music also included guitar. Whether it was playing classics on the viola or shredding riffs from his favorite band, The Smashing Pumpkins, music always gave him that special escape. In 2001, after the tragic events of 9/11, like many young men and women, Michael joined the Armed Forces and became a United States Marine. He fought for his country bravely in Iraq as part of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, attached to the 2nd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment, Echo Company. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit went through An Nasiryah and Al Kut. For their extraordinary heroism they received the Presidential Unit Citation award. It was the first to be given since the Vietnam War. A Sooner born and bred, his home kept calling him. After his service in the United States Marines, he came back to Norman to family and his beloved Sooners. It is also where he dedicated over ten years to the City of Norman’s Line Maintenance Department. Michael will always be remembered as kind hearted. Always willing to give the shirt off his back, food, money or anything to anyone in need. Michael had the biggest heart and the greatest sense of humor. Michael you will be loved and missed always.
