A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Miller E. Maddox, Jr, age 88, of Norman, OK will be held 10:00am Friday October 27, 2017 2 St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman with interment to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Hayes Maddox, Mitch Maddox, Trace Maddox, Tode Johnson, Sam Hawkins, and Jarod Smith.
Miller was born June 18, 1929 in Los Angeles CA, the son of Miller Maddox, Sr. and his wife Rosabell Rosser. He passed away on October 22, 2017 at his home in Norman. Miller attended school in Kress, TX before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then returned to Borger, TX where he married Barbara Joan White. Miller and Joan moved to Norman, OK where he attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. During that time, they had their two children, Steve and Kathy. After graduation, the family lived in Oklahoma City and Texas before returning to Norman in 1969 where Miller worked as a pharmacist at Hyde Drug until retiring in 1991. Joan passed away July 9, 1979.
Miller remarried March 30, 1985 to Jean Marie Hawkins. They were members of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, enjoyed water gardening and antiquing. Jean passed away May 20, 2010.
Miller continued with his passion for antiques and collectibles. He was a regular at the Cleveland County Flea market. He also enjoyed being outside tending to his yard and fish pond. He also enjoyed watching Oklahoma football and Thunder basketball. Miller will be most remembered for his compassion for family, genuine friendships and love for life.
In addition to Joan and Jean, Miller was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his sister, Rose Reddick of Huntington Beach, CA; his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Shawn Maddox of Edmond, OK; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tom Ray Johnson of Pickton, TX; stepson, Sam Hawkins, Hot Springs, AR; stepdaughter, Pam Smith and her husband Ricci, Shawnee OK; eight grandchildren, Hayes Maddox, Mitch Maddox, Trace Maddox, Tode Johnson, Rhandi Johnson O’Neal, Sadie Johnson, Cortney Parker and Jarod Smith.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Norman, OK.
