Tribute

Myrna was born in Abilene TX on August 21, 1939 and left us on January 26, 2024 from natural causes. She was 84.

Although Myrna was born in Abilene, the family moved to Graham TX where she spent the majority of her childhood. After graduating high school in Graham, she attended the University of Oklahoma earning a degree in Education. While at OU she met and later married John Hastie. After graduating, she taught for a few years in Noble, OK helping to put her husband through law school. Her teaching career was short lived as the family was stationed in Chicago IL during John’s time in the Army. After his tour ended, the growing family returned to Oklahoma and Myrna chose to rear their three children rather than return to the classroom. Later, as her children grew older, Myrna and the kids moved to Edmond, OK and she began a new career at Hallmark Farms in Edmond where she ran the office for many years.  She retired from Hallmark and spent her final years enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was known by many names during her life: daughter, sister, mother, teacher, aunt, mother-in-law, friend and, her favorite, Mama Myrna. Her family will miss her wit, wisdom, smile, honest caring and devotion.

Myrna was preceded in death by her parents Norman Dale and Liberty Lemmons of Graham. She is survived by her sister, Julie Crenshaw; her beloved children: son, John Douglas Hastie, Jr. and his wife Anne; daughter, Cindy Murray; daughter, Elizabeth Hastie; grandsons, Zachary Hastie, Alex Hastie, Dale Murray, Drew Murray; and great grandchildren, Dakota and Derek.

As Myrna was a diehard Sooner, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in support of the OU Foundation at the University of Oklahoma.  Memorial gift(s) may be made to the following: Norman Memorial Scholarship, OU-Tulsa Greatest Need, or Health Sciences Center Student Scholarship

Checks made payable to the “OU Foundation” can be mailed to:
