Neil Phillip Roberts, beloved husband, father and grandpa passed away to his heavenly home on Thursday, February 1, 2024. He was born January 2, 1939, in Norman, OK to James Joseph Roberts and Mary Elizabeth Craven Roberts.

 

Neil grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from University High School. Neil joined the Navy in his last two years of High School and went on active duty when he graduated. He was honorably discharged after 4 years. He married Betty Louise Maehs, the love of his life, on August 18, 1962. The two were married for 61 years. Neil and Betty have two daughters, Robin Renee Roberts Noah and Cherie Lynn Roberts Weyand. Neil retired from The City of Norman fire department in 1988 as Assistant fire chief. He served there for 26 years. Neil and his dad owned a boat business and a Sinclair gas station for many years as well. He was a member of the Moose Lodge where he once served as Governor and was very involved for many years. Neil loved to dance. Every Saturday night you could find him at the Moose Lodge dancing away. He loved to fish especially in Alaska, loved to do carpentry work (so talented), loved to flower garden and won yard of the month for several years. He was a loyal die hard sooner fan. He loved to travel and would drive miles to see the world.
 

Neil passed away with his family caring for him in his home.


Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Mary Roberts; brothers Kenny Roberts and Randy Roberts; and his sister Diane Brindley.


He is survived by his wife Betty Louise Roberts and his children Robin and (Phil) Noah, Cherie and (Ron) Weyand; His honorary, daughter Amy Linnemann Peters. Grandchildren: Jacob (Olivia) Meyer, Jordan Meyer, Leah (Trea) Kilby, Rachel Weyand, Aaron (Maryssa) Weyand and Christian Noah. Great grandchildren: Archer Meyer, Macy Johnson, Kye Johnson, Max Montelongo, and Jakob Peters. Brother, Allen Roberts (Bette) and his sister Vicki Herman; and many nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers the family kindly request considering a donation to Moose Charities, The Oklahoma State Firefighters Association, or St. Joseph’s church.
