Oliver Durrell Hobbs

Oliver Durrell Hobbs, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away November 19, 2022, at the age of 83.  Durrell was born April 1, 1939, in Washita, Oklahoma, to Verna and Oliver Hobbs.

He graduated from Norman High School in 1957.  In 1959, he went to work for Frontier Airlines.  Durrell had no idea the events that he would set in motion when he did this. 

In 1961, he married Margaret ‘Peggy’ LaRocque, and together they had five children.  Unfortunately, as sometimes happens, there was a divorce.  After the divorce, Durrell then married Joyce Green, who he remained wed to until her death in 2001.  Amazingly, Durrell and Peggy were reunited and were married again in 2004 to the delight of their children and grandchildren.  They remained together until 2019 when she passed away, and his heart was broken.

Durrell had many interests in his life.  His love of camping took his family on a few truly awesome vacations.  Hunting and fishing brought him joy as well.  He was also very talented with wood working, and his accomplishments in his woodshop were a source of comfort and pride.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother, sister-in-law, and many aunts and uncles.

Durrell is survived by his five children, Donna Smith and her husband JR, Julie Beed and her husband Jeff, Erick Hobbs and his wife Tyra, Shane and his wife Carol, Jason and his partner Ralph; nine grandchildren; two grandchildren-in-law; and three great grandsons.
