Tribute

Patricia J. (Scanlan) Brown entered this world on December 6, 1924 and departed it on March 14, 2018 for her eternal home. She lived in Oklahoma City most of her life. Patricia graduated from Central High School in 1943, completing an intensive training program offered in Secretarial Science. Following high school, she went to work for the Office of Defense Transportation, a war-time agency established by the Federal Government. She later worked for a number of years in several different Federal agencies as an executive secretary until the arrival of her first child.
Patricia met the love of her life, Dean Brown, in 1951 when they both worked on the same floor of the old Post Office Building. They were married the following year and were blessed with two children, Stephen and Trish. Patricia passed just a few months shy of her and Dean’s 66th wedding anniversary.
Dean and Patricia liked to travel, especially to the great historical sites in Europe, and did this for many years after their children were grown. They enjoyed music of all kinds from opera to country and attended the concerts of the Oklahoma City Symphony and later, Philharmonic.
Patricia knew the Lord from an early age and walked with Him throughout her life. She delighted in studying His Word and possessed an amazing depth of faith, knowledge and understanding of God. Dean and Patricia were always active in the church and had a special interest in being of help to others whenever and wherever possible. They joined the fellowship of believers at First Baptist Church of Norman after moving to Norman in 2005. They were blessed by the teaching and fellowship there and by having a part in some of the many community outreach programs of the church.
Patricia was preceded in death by her mother and father, Gladys B. and William M. Scanlan of Oklahoma City; her son, Stephen, who died of cancer in 1998. She is survived by her husband; her daughter Trish and husband Tracy Foor; Jeremy and Gordon Foor; and a beloved cousin, Paula Limes.
In lieu of flowers, please note that Patricia’s favorite charities include Jesus House of Oklahoma City, Food and Shelter of Norman and the Community Outreach Ministry of First Baptist Church of Norman.
The family would like to thank all of Patricia’s caregivers for their loving, compassionate and steadfast care over the past several years and, in particular, Marcia Crook, Angie Chinchilla and Marilee Garrison of Hearts at Home Companion Care; Jennifer Cary and Tom Amos of McCortney Family Hospice; and Dr. John Krodel and his nurse, Liz, of Norman Clinic.
