Patricia “Patsy” Friedman of Norman, OK passed away peacefully in her home on August 12, 2021, after a 6-year battle with cancer. Patsy was born to Marvin Mastagni and F. Martha Mastagni in Paso Robles, California on August 6th, 1949. After her parent’s divorce, she would move to Oklahoma City, OK where her mother would marry her daddy, Vernon S. Johnston. Patsy was the second of three children. In her younger years, she was a Blue Bird, an avid bowler, and member of the Cry-Slurs Choral Group of Northwest Classen High School, where she graduated in 1968.
Following high school, Patsy attended Oklahoma State University where she completed one year of schooling. On June 6th, 1970, Patsy would marry the love of her life, Gary Michael Friedman whom she had started dating in high school. After they married, they would move to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where they lived for 3 years before returning to Oklahoma City. Patsy couldn’t wait to start a family and in November of 1973, she welcomed the birth of her first child, Michael. Patsy would go on to work at First National Bank of Oklahoma City until 1977, when her second child, Christopher, was born. Patsy moved to Norman in 1978 and one year later would welcome her third child, Jennifer. Patsy supported her family as a homemaker until returning to work in 1988 for Dillard’s Department Store. Patsy would go on to work for Dillard’s until she retired in 2016.
Patsy’s driving passion was her family including her fur-babies many of which were rescue animals. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life. Whether she was traveling across Europe, down to the Caribbean, or up and down the Las Vegas Strip, Patsy always cherished the time that she could get away with Gary. She enjoyed collecting antique furniture and dishware and would often take her children antiquing. She also loved spending time with and spoiling her four grandchildren. She was always supportive of her children and inspired them to take risks and pursue their dreams.
She was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Mastagni; stepfather, Vernon Johnston; and mother, F. Martha Johnston. She is survived by husband, Gary Friedman; son, Michael Friedman and wife Miranda; son, Christopher Friedman; daughter, Jennifer Friedman; grandchildren, Emily, Clark, Claire and Braxton; brother Bernie Mastagni and wife, Linda and their son Mark; and brother, Randy Johnston. Patsy was also a second mother to so many of her children’s friends.
Open viewing will be Thursday August 19th from 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM at Havenbrook Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin that evening at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home.
