Peter J. Kron, age 73, passed away June 10, 2020. He was born February 19, 1947, in Mellen, Wisconsin, to the late Edward and Joan Kron, and the family moved to San Manuel, Arizona, eight years after his birth. Pete began his career in track and field at San Manuel High School, where he held the state record for discus.
After being scouted by OU coaches and offered a scholarship for track and field, he moved out to Oklahoma in the summer of 1965, and began throwing the following year. Pete competed his Bachelor degree, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed for four years at the South Pole in Antarctica as a naval weatherman. When he left the service, Pete started his coaching career at his alma mater, OU.
Over the years, he coached many all Americans, Big 8, later Big 12, champions and many wonderful people. Pete retired from OU after 26 years of coaching. He then went to work with his hobby, astronomy at Astronomics in Norman, and continued until his passing. While he may have retired from OU, Pete went on to coach part-time at OBU for over ten years. He was also proud to have lived “One Day at a Time” since June 17, 1987.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his ex-wives, Debbie of Oklahoma City, and Corinne of Noble; and his brother, Gregory Kron.
Survivors include his son, Jonathan Kron of Norman; ex-wife, Seddie Barber of Oklahoma City; nephew, Edd Kron, and niece, K.P. Kron, both of Arizona.
