Philip Leroy Bowden passed away on May 7, 2020 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 88. He was born July 6, 1931 to John Delos and Mildred Eunice (Dearth) Bowden in Cuba City, Wisconsin and raised on the family farm along with five brothers and two sisters. He attended school for 12 years in Cuba City before attending college in Platteville, WI and then serving in the Navy for four years during the Korean War. He then attended Panhandle State College near Guymon where he met Willa Jo Cothran Bowden to whom he was married for 62 years. They had two sons, Philip L. Bowden II and Kent D. Bowden.

In Guymon, he built a housing addition and owned a motel, restaurant and club for many years. He later enjoyed farming in Washita Co. and participated and worked in other businesses. Phil was always a hard worker who could fix anything, a loving husband who loved his Sons and Grandchildren.

Phil and Willa Jo enjoyed many trips traveling to many states and countries during their retirement years. He also loved traveling, collecting antiques, and antique clocks. He was a member of McFarlin Methodist Church and Friendship Class.

 

Survivors include his wife Willa Jo Bowden, sons Philip L. Bowden and wife Rosada of Norman and Kent D. Bowden and wife Amy of Norman. Grandchildren Kerry Bowden, Russell Bowden, Caleb Bowden, Parker Bowden, Anna Bowden, Micah Dragoo, Julie Watson and Zachary Watson. Philip will be buried in the Norman Warren Cemetery with a private graveside service with family members. In lieu of flowers, the family asked to please donate to the McFarlin Methodist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
