Rebecca Ann 'Becky' (Higgins) Leon

January 30, 1949 ~ March 11, 2024 (age 75) 75 Years Old

Tribute

Rebecca Ann Higgins Leon or “Becky” as everyone knew her died on Monday, March 11, 2024.  She was born on January 30, 1949, to Karroll and Mary Ruth Higgins in Frederick, Oklahoma, and grew up on a cattle ranch.  As a participant in FFA at Tascosa High School in Amarillo, Texas, she showed steers and one of them even won the title Grand Champion, earning enough money to help pay for college.  Upon graduation, Becky headed to Penn State University where she received a BS degree in insurance and real estate.

Becky met and married Tom Leon in Bedford, Pennsylvania, on June 5, 1971.  The couple moved several places with short stints in Indianapolis, Indiana, Portsmouth, Ohio, and initially landed in Amarillo, Texas, where their children, Monica and TJ, were born.  Finally, settling in Norman, they put down roots around the corner from her parents and together raised their children while being an integral part of the community.

One of Becky’s early jobs was as a Leggs hosiery representative, but she really found her love of crafts and painting thereafter.  This passion led to the formation of Leon’s Wood Crafting, where she and Tom created children’s names out of wood to display on the wall.  Becky would scribe out the names, Tom would cut them out and she would customize with a painted mural.  They later started a retail store named Bed and Bath which took them to Abilene, Texas, then later to Norman, Oklahoma, where she worked with her mother for 26 years until the shop was sold.

Shortly after, Becky started working at the First Baptist Church’s Family Life Center (FLC) where she served as the activities coordinator.  After retiring from the FLC, she volunteered her time to Bible Study Fellowship as well as other bible studies, an exercise group, Canasta group, the FBC food pantry and taught numerous crafting classes.  She loved sharing that passion of crafting and painting with her eight grandchildren.  She and Tom also loved taking some of them on camping trips and traveling with friends.  Becky was such a servant, guiding light, devoted grandmother and an amazing loving friend to so many.  She will be dearly missed and may you find peace in her certain resurrection in Christ our savior.

Becky was preceded in death by her brother, James ‘Jim’; mother, Mary; and father, Karroll Higgins.  She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughter, Monica Boyd and husband Deren; son, T.J. Leon and wife Quinn; sister, Susan Wallace and husband Ted; and grandchildren, Breyden, Brody, Behr and Neely Grey, James, Jack, Teddy and Joey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Becky’s name to First Baptist Church Community Ministries, 211 W. Comanche Street, Norman, OK 73069.
