Rex J. Woods, 86, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Norman Region Healthplex in Norman, Oklahoma. Rex was born on July 24, 1931 in Lawton, Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, when he met his wife, Dina Wright Woods of Norman. After graduating from OU, Rex joined the Army and was stationed at Ft. Hood. Rex was subsequently stationed in South Korea and Germany as well as all over the US. In 1968, he served in Vietnam. After being transferred to Travis AFB in Northern California with his wife and three children, he began taking graduate courses in Public Administration and graduated from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. When Rex retired from the military as a Lt. Colonel, he began working for the University of California. He helped run the Water Resources Center for the University for many years, furthering academic research on water issues in California.
Rex and Dina were living in Vacaville, California at the time of her death in 2005. Rex remained in Vacaville until the time of his death. However, in recent years, Rex traveled often to Norman, Oklahoma to visit his companion, Sylvia Cate, of Norman.
Rex was a gentle soul who loved traveling, wine tasting, gardening, animals and cooking for family gatherings. He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dina Woods and is survived by one daughter, Lori Woods; two sons, Jerry Woods and wife, Jan and Pat Woods and wife, Angela and four grandchildren: Bea, Della, Chas and Alyssa Woods. Rex is also survived by his companion of seven years, Sylvia Cate.
Services are under the care of Havenbrook Funeral Home and will be held at Blackburn Cemetery on Friday, March 23, 2018, 2:00 pm, with The Reverend Jack Wilcox officiating
