Tribute

Roy Charles (Chuck) Pendley, age 77, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022.  He was born October 14, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Charles Smith and Mary Weeks.  He was adopted by Willa Lee and Van Roy Pendley on November 4, 1944.

Chuck grew up in Spencer, Oklahoma.  He often reminisced on fond childhood memories of spending time with cousins and family that lived near.  Shooting baskets every night in a backyard down the street, playing hours of ping-pong, and exciting Friday nights at Taft Stadium watching the stock car races.  Chuck was a musician and performer.  His senior year he won the Star-Spencer talent contest performing the ‘Boogie-Woogie’.  He was the Drum Major of the Star-Spencer High School band.  After high school, Chuck joined the Navy where he served from January of 1966 to April of 1969.

On July 4, 1981, he married the love of his life, Gail Lee Knight.  In November of 1983, their little miracle arrived when Gail gave birth to their only child, Kristen (Krissy) Nicole.

Chuck continued to make music playing piano and singing for a few different bands during the 1980s.  He was very active in Krissy’s life; traveling around to soccer tournaments, taking trips to Maine to see Gail’s family, and many family vacations with his son Michael and his family.  Chuck worked for the United States Postal Service, serving as a letter carrier for many years, and later moving into the finance office at the local USPS plant in OKC, where he retired in 2008.

Since his retirement, Chuck enjoyed spending time being a fulltime 'Papa' to his two grandchildren, Jocelyn and Bryson.  He loved spending time with them and attending their school activities and sporting events.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; and loving wife, Gail.  His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his daughter Krissy, son-in-law Ryan, and their children Jocelyn and Bryson; and Ryan's parents Richard and Janet McMurray.  Chuck is also survived by his son Michael Laudette, his wife Maria, his daughter Tiffany and son Austin.
