Seth Franklin Millington, Captain USMC (Ret.), of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma.  He was born in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Ira and Georgie Millington on November 11, 1934.

 

From Berlin, Oklahoma, the family including his younger brother, Scott, and sister, Linda, moved to Oklahoma City where he attended High School in Edmond and graduated in 1952 and lettered in both track and football.

 

In the fall of 1952, Seth enrolled at the University of Oklahoma.  He went on earn a BBA degree in accounting from the OU School of Business in 1956.  He was an active member and lifetime donor to the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.  He also was a walk-on for the OU Sooners Football Team his freshman year.

 

In the summer of 1955, while at OU, Seth joined the United States Marine Corps and completed the Platoon Leaders Course at the top of his class earning an “Outstanding Graduate Award” which earned him a regular commission.

 

Seth attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida, and earned his wings in 1958.  He was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, El Toro, California, and finally Iwakuni, Japan.  He was originally assigned to the VMCJ1 Photo Squadron flying the F3D Sky Knight and eventually flew the supersonic F8U Crusader until retiring his commission as Captain in 1961.  Seth then transferred his commission to the U.S. Army and continued his love for flying with the Oklahoma National Guard as 1st Lieutenant until 1963.

 

Seth was a local businessman in Norman for nearly 60 years owning and operating several different companies.  He received many community awards while living in Norman and was also appointed by the Governor to the State Board of Corrections where he served for eight years.  He also once served as the Chairman of the Cleveland County Cancer Crusade.  His hobbies included snow skiing and golfing.  He was also a member of the local Lions Club and a member of the McFarlin Memorial United Methodist church since 1962.

 

Seth is survived by his five children, Sharon K. Millington of Norman, William Millington of Norman, Seth D. Millington and wife  Amy of Denver, Jeff  Millington and wife Tammy of Edmond and David I. Millington of Norman; grandchildren, Shel and James of Edmond, Ira and Elizabeth of Norman, Kati and Conner of Edmond, and Hunter and Ellie of Denver.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgie and Ira; stepmother, Margaret; first wife, JoNell Bassett Millington; second wife, Ellen Landsaw Millington; and brother, Scott Millington.
