Sondra Kay Murray

Sondra Kay Murray (Sonnie Kay/Meema) was born on June 29, 1944 in St. Charles, Kentucky, to Ed and Gladys McGregor.  She departed this life on the morning of Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Sondra was married to Michael Murray on February 25, 1966, and together they raised two children, Kevin and Carol.  She always thought she made too many mistakes raising them, but they thought she was the coolest mom on the planet.

Sondra became a hairdresser and stylist, later owning her own salon, after teaching at the local cosmetology school for several years.  She would occasionally experiment new techniques, hair colors, perms, etc. on her family, but that just added to her cool factor.

Sondra loved roller skating and dancing, competing in both when she was younger.  She was known for her ever-present smile and positive attitude, finding the good in life and people around her was her superpower.

She is survived by her two children, Kevin and Carol; her son-in-law, Rick; her grandchildren, Anna, Tiphaney, Tara, Nathan, and Dakota; her great grandchildren, Dominic and Peyton; her brother, Howard; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sondra is preceded in death by her husband, Michael; her father, Ed; her mother, Gladys; and three of her siblings, Phyllis, Russel, and Jean. 

The family will hold a private ceremony to honor her.
