Thelma W. Sammie Craig

September 15, 1921 ~ December 23, 2017 (age 96) 96 Years Old
Thelma, better known as “Sammie Craig” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kathryn Matlock-Smith and Ronald Smith, on Saturday, December 23, 2017. She was born on September 15, 1921 in Norman, Oklahoma, to Otis Adrian Fox and Reba Bowls-Fox.
Sammie was a kindhearted lady, a Christian and faithful Methodist, and a generous woman whose life revolved around her family and her career as a Nurse. She graduated from Norman High School, continuing her education and becoming a Nurse, working for Dr. Willard, Dr. Belknap, and Dr. Wall. She was an active fifty year member of the “Order of Eastern Star”. It cannot go unsaid regarding her extraordinary gift of baking, most notably her Cherry Pie, well known by friends, neighbors, and family -- relished by all!
Sammie’s endearing family member was and “is always” her beloved and adored grandson, Dr. Gregory A. Smith, Pharm. D. and his wife, Gina, a resident of Orinda, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, along with her two great-granddaughters, Bailey Smith (Age 21) and Sydney Smith (Age 18).
Sammie lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kathryn and Ron Smith for the past ten years after they moved from San Ramon, California, and purchased a home in Norman, Oklahoma. Sammie was predeceased by her husband and the father of her dearly loved daughter, Mary, Frank Matlock; her husband of 32 years, Ira Craig; her parents, Otis Adrian Fox and Reba Bowls-Fox; her brothers, Cliff, Jack, and Gene Fox; and her sister, Muriel Huff.
Sammie is survived by her daughter, Mary Kathryn Matlock-Smith and son-in-law, Ronald L. Smith; grandson, Gregory Smith and his wife Gina Smith their daughters and great-granddaughters, Bailey and Sydney Smith; granddaughter, Stephanie Craig-Jeffery, and her son and great-grandson, Roman Jeffrey; and granddaughter, Heather Craig-Stejskal, her daughters and great-granddaughters, Kendall and Jordan Stejskal; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
