Verlene Kay Yohn, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, went to heaven on Thursday, August 17, 2017.
Verlene Kay Ireton was born on August 27, 1942 to Walter and Julia Ireton in Leedey, Oklahoma. She grew up on the family’s farm with her brothers, Elmer and Leroy. After graduating from Leedey High School, she attended Southwestern University where she received a bachelor’s degree.
In 1962, Verlene went on a blind date with Bill Yohn, and the rest is history.
Verlene and Bill were married on June 5, 1964. Over their 53 years of marriage, they did everything together. For many years, they enjoyed trips to Colorado where they hiked in the mountains. Verlene loved Bill unconditionally, was a servant beside him during his years in ministry, and cared for him faithfully and tirelessly.
Verlene was a loving mother to her daughter, Stephanie, and her son, Chris. She was patient, kind, and generous with her love and time. Her love was always unconditional. She was truly an example of a godly mother.
Verlene’s faith was in Jesus Christ her Savior. She trusted and depended on Him throughout her life. She faithfully served the Lord and brought Him much glory.
Verlene was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and spending time with her dear friends.
Verlene was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Todd; her son, Chris, and his wife, Shawn; her five grandchildren, Kylie, Ashlyn, and Jackson Shropshire, and Blake and Jacob Yohn; her brothers, Elmer and Leroy Ireton.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 22 at 10:00 at Trinity Baptist Church. Family will receive visitors at Havenbrook Funeral Home on Monday, August 21 from 6:00-8:00.
